Out on the lake last week my jetski kept stalling because i think i sucked up alot of sea weeds went to throw it back on the trailer and as im doing so driving back it started to run perfect. Had it out for a couple hours and the oil light came out so I went to mobile got 2 cycle oil a diffrent kind i usally dont put in but said jetski approved filled her up went back out for another 15 mins still running great then she started to bog and would only got a couple mph and was really loud. Went to land took the top of and it looked like there was a fire in there with so much smoke. I took out the spark plugs and they where soaked in oil like it was runnning way to rich which i think would explain the bogging and loud ness. What do you guys think this could be?? jetski model ra700 yamaha wave raider.

I am going to ask an obvious question, are you sure you used the right mixture? I ask because way to much oil in the mixture could cause that. I use all different kinds of oil for the premix in my motor. I do use marine ones only, not sure how big of a difference that make.

I've personally never seen it happen, but its a long held belief, ESPECIALLY in snowmobile/PWC circles, that you never ever mix different types of 2 stroke oil, especially between synthetic and regular. The belief is that the oils can form big blobs and won't mix, leading to all kinds of ratio mixture problems.

There is 2 spots for the oil and the gas and it mixs by it self. I dont have to pre mix. I drained all oil out and going to fill back up with the kind I always use and see what happends.

Hope that works for you. I was not meaning to be a smart alek, I just know I have screwed up the mixture before on small engines and got the problem you are describing. Hell, I finally wrote the premix ratio on my engine cowling in permanent marker on the boat because I kept forgetting what it was. :)

So you have oil injection? Was the oil you put in made for injection systems? I don't know how Yamaha oil injection works, but some makes if they fail they make the mixture rich, others don't feed any oil.
The smoke in the engine compartment would bother me a little more. Is your exhaust system intact? Bog, loud, smoke just sounds a lot like an exhaust leak to me. Check all the connections.

I thought I responded with the same question earlier, but I guess I didn't. Definitely check all exhaust hoses and couplers - sounds like you either blew a hose or a coupler.

OK - good to know I'm not crazy - OP started 2 threads:

Sorry, but that's a wives' tale. Any motor oil will mix with any motor oil. Doesn't matter if it's 2-stroke oil, 4-stroke oil, straight weight or multi-vis. The semi-synthetic oil you see on the auyo store shelves is just that- a mix of synthetic and non-synthetic. I used Valvoline semi-synthetic in my Johnson outboard. Worked great.
