I switched from a 1998 carb 200 Offshore Runner to a 1998 250 EFI to get away from the monsterously smokey startup in the marina. Both engines run beautifully, are professionally maintained, oil reservoirs lids are tight, only the most expensive synthetic low / no smoke oils, have new power heads and revamped oil uptake devices. Whether its warmed up or not doesn't seem to matter, these fill the air with smoke. People REALLY complain! Before I dump this totally re built 250 could anyone drop me a hint as to what to do or how to minimize about this cloud of smoke? Mechanics have said "that's just what these larger engines do".

Have you tried Amsoil Marine Synthetic HP 2-stroke 50/1 mix? How about Yamaha's XD100? Yamalube?

If these don't work for you, how about doing something drastic.......like ditching the oil mixer and mix up some 50:1 premix in the gas tank? Maybe worth a test......

Guess ya might as well shuck it. Its a plain jane 2 stroke. That's what they do. It takes a big gulp of fuel/oil mix ta start a cold behemoth 2 stroke motor, oiler or pre-mix. Opti's/dfi motors are a lot better both oil smoke and fuel mileage. 4 stroke even better.

You could switch ta Klotz R50 then everyone will think they are "race motors".:) Sorry, wish I had better news..............
