Smells like gas sludge from L.U.

This seems to have just started this year, got much worse after the last time out. I have a brown “sludge” kind of stuff leaking from areas of the lower unit, no it’s not gear lube, that smells like gas.
any ideas what it could be?

I should maybe mention this is a 1976 Evinrude 115hp. Unknown hours on it.

Running too rich then? I do run it a little heavy on the oil.

It is normal to have some unburnt fuel. If motor is running well then I would not worry about it.

Could be the gasket on the lower exhaust housing too. Unburnt oil and gas will leak there if the seals go bad.
