Hi, I have just installed my new Smartcraft Guages (system Tach & Speedo) and they are both saying, "Lost Engine Data" no other information is available except for the Air Temp reading. I have checked the connections and they seem fine.

Any Suggestions would be appreciated,

Regards,

hugh

They have to be configured as Port/Starboard and Master/Slave. Have you configured it this way?

Dave

Re: SmartCraft Guages Error message

There is usually a sticker on the top of the engine somewhere (It changes) if not, see picture below.

PS: you posted the picture of the engine while I was typing, but I know what they look like, just need the SN for locating certain information.
We are not talking a 4 cylinder engine with points and a carb here. Little things makes a big difference.

Hi Don,

I will look for this tomorrow, as it is now night time in Ireland.

Have you any ideas what could be wrong?

Well, kind of.
Every time I install one of these things, no matter how careful I am, it doesn't work first try.
I usually find I have hooked up something improperly. While the connecters may look the same, they aren't always the right ones. Another thing is termination caps and where they are put.

Re: SmartCraft Guages Error message

Still can't get the things to work! or locate the SN, I think the SN was stripped prior to delivery.

On the Speedometer, there are two wires white + and blue+- what sould these be wired to. I am trying to link to a Garmin GPS 178c. No wires are connected yet, just the male to female connectors.

Any help would be welcome,

Regards,

hugh

Re: SmartCraft Guages Error message

Get the gauges working before you try hooking up the GPS, or you never will get that system working.
How many junction boxes are in your system? Is this how your system is wired?

Also, what is the part number of your installation manual. It will be located on the bottom of each page along with the month and date.

Re: SmartCraft Guages Error message

yes, that's how the sytem is wired,

except I do not have a resistor at the engine side (a) could this be the problem, what is the part number so I can order one?

I have one junction box behind the dash which has the terminator cap at the blank junction.

The part number on the operation manual is 90-10229023 203.

Thanks for the advice,

regards,

hugh

Re: SmartCraft Guages Error message

The one I have pictured may not be exactly what your engine needs. That's why I was asking what the SN for your engine was. There are different connections on different years, and boat year isn't the same as engine year.
Look at the wiring harness on the engine, if it has the PN of the cable listed above, then it has the resistor built into the harness.

Re: SmartCraft Guages Error message

Hi Don,

The only part numbers I can find on the cable are 105C the date stamp is 06 2000. Does that help!

cheers,
