i've been reading everything i can about smart tabs and they seem to be just the cure for my problems but here is the situation.
i have a 1986 15 1/2ft champion bass boat with a 70hp mercury that is stern heavy as it is with plenty of bow rise. i will soon be adding a third battery to the stern so i assume bow rise will be greater. i am looking to add smart tabs soon and i am just undecided on which ones to buy. will st980-40 be enough or will i need to step up to st1290-60.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks bert

Re: smart tabs?

Good question. I would probably lean towards the st980-40 especially since it is a little cheaper and they are listed as being able to take up to an 80 hp engine. But it does sound like you are on the border with the extra weight so let's see what others say.

Go to Nauticus.com and use their selection chart or e-mail the company. They are very helpful. You do not need the 1290-60 for your boat. 980-40 should be just fine.

Call Nauticus on the phone. They will answer right on the spot.800-233-0194
According to John at Nauticus, there is some overlap built into the adjustment so you can't miss but I would call him first. Great people.

Re: smart tabs?

thanks for everyones input. i did read where with some bass boats the transom is not straight across which mine is not straight and if useing the standerd smart tabs they look like duck feet because of the angle of the transom. can they be trimmed to fit better instead of having to use the monster tabs which seem to be to large for my boat.
also is the hinge bolted or welded/fixed so it cannot be removed from the tab? if it can be removed i think i could just trim to fit the transom angle and reinstall the hinge so it wouldn't look like duck feet.
is that possible or am i just wishful thinking.

thanks
