smart tabs

sorry probably a stupid question, but am looking at getting some smart tabs, have a 18ft mariah, with volvo 4.3, now from reading post i guess i'll need the 12 x 9 with what ever actuators, 60 i guess, but here's the stupid bit, are they 12 inches wide or 9 inches wide??????, i'm a bit squeezed for space, the speedo thing may get in the way????? <br />thanks<br /><br />simon

12" along the transom, 9" back.

simon: I see your question has been answered but I'll add. I have a Tahoe Q4 and there is little space for tabs. I cured the problem by offsetting the mounting holes for the gas cyl bracket 2". I picked 2" because the holes for mounting the tab to the stern are 2" apart. Makes the new holes easy to locate.Talked with Nautijohn beforehand and he said OK.I have had no problems and believe me they work.Makes for a different boat!
