Has anybody tried the Nauticus Trim tabs on a larger Jetboat...23-25 foot. The reviews seem good for stern drives, and they are simple to install and relatively inexpensive...but not sure how they work with a jet boat.

Thanks

I'd get on performance boat dot com and get some opinions. They have a lot of jet people.
I really think hydraulic or electric tabs are the way to go. Those smart tabs don't have any adjustment.
Scream and fly is another performance forum that has some jet folks.

Are you actually trying to solve a problem? I wouldn't install them unless there were a specific benefit I needed from them.

I agree with superbenk. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. By nature, they do have to add some more drag, especially at low speeds. They are somewhat fragile appendages compared to a clean transom and they require holes to be drilled through the outside water membrane creating possible future water entry issues. Don't do it. - Grandad

I added SmartTabs to my 1980 Century when I had & absolutely loved them. My problem was crazy bow-rise on the hole shot and excessive wandering at low speeds. I attribute the problems to the fact that it was only a 4cyl in the boat & was narrower than modern boats. The SmartTabs worked amazingly well & really improved the handling of the boat immensely. It also helped with reducing roll over waves & just generally smoothed out the ride. The boat never went over ~38MPH at best so I'm not sure if the ~35MPH I typically saw was because of the SmartTabs or if that was just typical & that one 38MPH was a fluke. Either way, it was a nice improvement on the boat.

Since then I've gotten my current 2008 Four Winns which is wider, has a better designed hull & is much better powered (5.0L V8). I considered SmartTabs just because of how well they worked on the Century, but decided against it because I really wasn't solving any problems. The Four Winns can porpoise some but it's easily fixed with trim so not really a problem with the hull but with my trim position which you should be adjusting frequently based on speed, water conditions & weight distribution inside the boat (people) anyhow. Point is, there was no reason to add something to this boat because it works perfectly as is. It wasn't broken so I didn't fix it.

Recommending the same for you if you're not solving a specific problem. If you are solving a problem then, for the money, the SmartTabs are amazing & I'd highly recommend them.

That's why I love these forums....I am also on jetboaters.net and between the 2 I get alot of great info, and can make an educated assesssment. I do believe I will take most people's advice and not try to fix something that isnt broken :)
