I have an odd problem with my smafrt craft instrument connected to a 115 HP 4 stroke Mercury engine.
The problem is with the trolling control.
When the engine is started the smart craft system works fine. The problem arises when ´the engine has been running at high rpm for a while, then the trolling mode can not be activated and the smart craft instrument says "Must be in idle".
Then if the engine is stopped and started Again immediately everything is working fine again.

Hope someone in this forum knows what the problem is, and what to do to get rid of it.

Hi there, welcome to iboats!:)

After a high speed run, have you tried going into neutral gear then back into forward gear without shutting down the engine to see if the system works properly? I believe that is the procedure needed to make the troll mode work but not completely sure on that.

You should be able to activate the troll control anytime the engine rpms and/or boat speed are below the troll control set point. The only suggestion I have is to do a master reset- what version of Smartcraft software are you running?

Hello
Thanks for your input.
A master reset has been tried without success. I cant remember what version of smart craft software i am running, but will try have a look tomoorow when i am godin for a trip in my boat. The problem is still there even if the gear lever is set in neutral and then back in gear. The only thing that works for me is to shut down the engine, and start again immediately after. Another thing i have noticed when the trolling mode can`t be actaivated is that the engine is pending a bit up and down in RPM. This is also solved when the engine is restarted.

Hmmm- erratic idle rpms suggest to me a faulty sensor- usually tps or iac. Time for a scan?

What is tps or iac sensor ??. I will tell my mechanic to do a scan, and what to search for and mention these possible possible faulty sensors.
