Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can identify the make and model of a small sailboat (a little larger than a Sunfish)that I have been given? There are no identifying tags, letters, numbers, symbols, etc... anywhere on the boat. It is not a custom made either. The person who gave it to me lost all paperwork several years ago.

Thanks
AGP

there should be a placard somewhere on that boat that will give you some info. Look all around the hull, you should find something. Also, the sail may have a logo on it.

how about som basic poop on your boat?? overall length..width at beam (widest point on hull)..what kind of rig??( sloop, cat, gunter?)does it have just a main sail or a jib(headsail ) also?..A dagger board?or swing keel?0r fixed keel? Then we can guess what it is...JP

I have a similar problem - no identifying marks anywhere. My dinghy is fibreglass over (thick) foam core. 18' long, 5'beam, 18" draft. Orig. registration 1984. Pivoting dagger-type keel. Mains'l only nice big triangular one ;-) . Incidentally, I am thinking of adding a bowsprit (posted a thread on that in the project boats section). Any ideas?

Post a pic. Did you check the sail for numbers or insignias?

Alcort (AMF) Made a Super Sunfish and a Sailfish larger than the Sunfish.
Might even be Laser

Is it sloop or lateen rigged?

You guys are great.

No markings on sail. Or maybe all the bleach I used to clean them up wiped them out :)

Okay...my wreck - soon to be pride and joy - is sloop-rigged. No Jib. These photos may help (or may not - my first try at posting!)

paul..after looking at the pictures..I think what you have is an 18 ft.sloop..yes you have one large triangular sail..but this is the main sail..and you willneed a jib sail..I say this because of the position of the mast..which as far as I could see ..is close to the edge of the foredeck..if you had one sail it would be shaped different and much farther foward..your boat appears to be a typical day sailor with cutty cabin..I searched all of my referances and could not find a boat that fits ..LOA 18 ft. 5ft. beam but lots of these boat have been made not in quantity..I also suspet that the heavy foam core you rever to is floatation..good luck JP

Paul, you said orig. registration 1984. Can you track those registration numbers back through dept. of watercraft?
