I have got a small 6hp evinrude outboard that I am not able to leave the motor on the boat trailering becasue it sits too low. The motor does not have a lock option to tilt it up. The height difference between the ground isn't really back but pulling into steep drive and such does anyone have any ideas so that I don't have to take the motor off each time I trailer the boat. One option I looked into was putting a transom saver like deal on but the boats back overhangs to actual trailer by a couple of feet where the bunks are only supporting the boat.

Thanks in Advance

Kevin

Pikey2574,

I have a '79 6hp johnson with the same symptoms. It doesn't have a mechanical lock.

What I did was tilt the engine up then take a 8 inch piece of 4x4 lumber and put it between the engine and the transom mount plate. I then put a bungee from one end of the board , around the shaft of the engine, and fastened it to the other end of the board.
It keeps the engine tilted around 45 degrees and it real steady. (I cut a few notches into the 4x4 to make it fit a little better)

Its not pretty, but it works really well.

Nav

Did the same thing with a 40 hp Evinrude. Used a 2X4 and bungee cord. Drove some nails and bent them over to provide anchors for the hooks. Has worked well for several years.

Pikey2574,

Whatever method you use to hold it up is sort of your choice.

The trick and key element to this is securing it so it cannot bounce.

Bouncing is what breaks them.
