Hi all . I have a small scotty downrigger with a clamp for use on an aluminium boat . I just bought a new bigger boat , and of coarse the clamp won't clamp on to anything as the boat is to wide .Other than buying a new flush mount down rigger , does anyone have any suggestions on how I can make this lil' compact work ? Thanks

Not knowing exactly what rig looks like, but could you use a 2x6 to span the width of the boat then clamp or mount the downrigger to the 2x6? A friend of mine bought his boat, used, set up using a 2x6 and his individual downriggers were bolted directly to the wood. Lasted many years till he made a new downrigger setup out of aluminum.

Re: Small downrigger

Thanks for the ideas guys . I have since contacted the Scotty company directly , and they have a conversion kit for only $8.00 ! I think I'll go that route . Happy fishing !
