Small crack in fiberglass hull with stains

Hey everyone,

What is the best way to repair this? And CHEAPEST way to restore my hull cosmetically? ( i mean like new paint job white and shiny)

Everything in and around this is solid and nothing seems soft or weak. I'm only interested in repairing this the easy way, not tearing up my floor looking for rotten stuff.

I have fiberglass cloth, resin+hardener, and fiberglass bondo.

Agreed.

Just using this beat up boat for the summer. Getting some money later in the year at which point I might take this thing apart for the experience and fun of it or just donate it. I'll be buying a new used boat this fall or winter.

Just want to practice some repair work here. Looking for advice on the easiest way.

A bit of polyester Resin, with a Filler to thicken it applied, then a bit of Gelcoat to cover it. Myself, I would just use 2 part Epoxy Putty to fill the wound, and leave it unfinished. When selling it the Repair is visible, and it can't be mistaken for "They had to repair a very large Area..."

It would be a fair bet that the stains are from water seepage, indicating that the structure of the hull has water in it.

In order to get a fiberglass patch of any sort to adhere to the hull, it will need to be really dry. So, you can try to patch it, but it may not work.

those brown streaks are the tannins in the wood leaching out as the wood structure rots

you can cosmetically fix it, however I agree with Ted, there is an underlying issue that should be addressed first

Great replies! The boat has been out of water for 2 years straight and in storage. Bone dry right now.

I know water has gotten into the hull at one time. I'm not trying to save this boat's life, but since the boat is water tight while out on the water.... just trying to clean it up a bit to use for 1 more season until I buy a new boat.
