How do I know which trim pump I have, numbers to look for? assuming it came with boat, 1997 Maxum SR2, Alpha One?? but you know what you get into when you assume stuff, ha haAyuh,.... Is it full of oil,..??
Which trim pump ya got,..?? there's been several over the years,...
Mainly does the trim pump have a plastic reservoir or is it solid aluminum? How do I know which trim pump I have, numbers to look for? assuming it came with boat, 1997 Maxum SR2, Alpha One?? but you know what you get into when you assume stuff, ha ha

It is a plastic reservoir, I couldn't see a full line the first time I looked at it, took the cap off and looked but without knowing where level should be I did not add any, doesn't seem to be leaking anywhere, motor for the pump sounds the same going up or down, It does comes up which is the most important thing, guess maybe I need to drain completely and refill, make sure no water or air in the lines, see if that fixes the problem.Mainly does the trim pump have a plastic reservoir or is it solid aluminum?
Mine is all aluminum and I had a leaking hose running to one of the ram cylinders after hooking it with a #12 circle hook. Lost most of the oil that weekend and was acting the same as you have described. Replaced the hoses and refilled the pump. Had to check and add more oil several times before all the air was pushed out. Small plug is removable with a regular screwdriver. The plastic ones have a cap you can just screw off to check and add more oil
I will attempt that, thanksPost a picture of the pump and as best you can the oil level in the plastic reservoir.
as others have mentioned, many possibilities to verify. In addition, if an older and saltwater used boat, rams may need rebuilding. Easy to perform but time consuming. Always check fluids and electrical connections first, including solenoids. If fluid is milky, water is getting into system and usually through ram seals (not always).Does anyone know why my outdrive, Alpha One, is so slow coming up but goes down quickly, normally ? Like 5 times longer coming up than down?
Thanks for the info.plastic pump is the oildyne
level is about 3/4" from the top
YESShould always be checked with the unit lowered completely??
I checked the level of trim fluid while completely lowered and level was aprox 3/4" below the top of the neck where the cap screws on and is perfectly clear, no sign of water contamination, don't think I'm gonna worry too much about it anymore, doesn't make any unusual noise, just a lot slower coming up than down?I will attempt that, thanks
or seals in the cylindersOne thing to check is if you raise the outdrive about half way . . . maybe a bit more. See if it will stay there for several days. If it slowly lowers, you may have a problem with the valves in the pump.
No Mr. Tpenfield, I keep it at almost all the way up, according to the trim guage? on the dash, for transporting purposes, ground clearance, and it does not leak down at all.One thing to check is if you raise the outdrive about half way . . . maybe a bit more.
