1989 60 hp evinrude heat alarm comes on changed everything put alarm sensor.if i unhook the alarm sensor the one tan wire and run the engine and it gets over heated will the SLOW switch kick still take it down to 200rpm or are the sensor and SLOW switch connected

This does sound familiar.

You need the temp sender working to trigger SLOW.
