Good morning all:

I have a 1990 OMC 5.8 in a Caravelle I 2300. Last year found out the block was cracked found a bare block and rebuilt the engine. Got it started on the test stand for a little break in period and now have it installed in the boat. The engine will not start.

It turns over very slowly, almost like the battery is dying. I replaced with a brand new battery, new cables, new slave solenoid, checked and rechecked the cables and connections to the battery and engine block for the ground. I have 12.6 volts to the solenoid and 12.6 volts to the starter when cranking.

Any suggestions that I might have missed?

Thank you for your help!!

Disconnect the outdrive, and see if it turns over any easier. You might have something misaligned and binding between the coupler, shaft, gimball bearing, etc.

Sorry should have said, outdrive is not attached, just dropped the engine back in the boat and haven't attached the outdrive back up.

Could the batteries cranking amps have an affect?? New battery has 690cca previous battery had 750cca (I think)
