Recently bought my 1st IO. 1984 Deep V Bow rider with an OMC 3.0 140hp outdrive . It ran great on test drive, 1st time I took it to the lake I backed it into a stump & spun the bushing on a beautiful 13X19 SS Michigan wheel. I had the hub replaced , 1st time I put it back in the lake, I backed it off the trailer, no problem, took off & just as it started over the hump, new hub started slipping. Put my spare prop 13X19 SST off my bass boat & it runs 35 mph at 4200 rpm, bottom of WTO range, but poor hole shot & almost impossible to pull tube. I'm thinking of getting a 15X13 4 blade solas and I wonder if a prop shop could set the M W up to use the solas hub? I borrowed a 15X13 aluminum prop from a friend & it pulled 4500 rpm at 33 mph.

Re: slipping bushing

Just wondering what your spin prop hub looked like. Did it tear out at the splines or the prop housing? My hub must be slipping as the cotter pin is at a different position from when I put it on. It blows out on take off and will rev at part throttle. Also have a good Michigan 13x21 Stainless 13 spline fits OMC. Like new and vented. Willing to sell at $200 if you need it for your bass boat. In Nebraska.

Re: slipping bushing

There are the old rubber pressed in hubs and the newer plastic inserts that you can change. The rubber hub has to be pressed in and has to be straight to get satisfactory service. I borrowed a prop once that had the hub improperly installed and the vibration was horrible.

If you had a shop repair your prop and it failed, take it back and have them make it good. The test for a slipping rubber hub (plastic you can look at and tell it's damaged) is to scribe a mark from the brass spline straight out to the outer edge of the inner hub. Install it and goose it. Take it off and look. Lines not aligned, hub is slipping.
