slave solenoid? ?

I put a new starter on thinking my starter was bad, it starts sometimes but most of time i hear a ckicking sound and i think its that little solenoid mounted at back of motor, is that a slave solenoid? Anyway are they expensive? I have a 3.0 mercury mercruiser 1991. I just want to use my.boat and it be dependable. All connections are clean on battery, new starter and that solenoid i think it's a slave solenoid, thank you in advance

You are talking about a MerCruiser 4 cyl motor, right? If so, I would recommend replacing the slave solenoid. Let us know how it goes, as I have found that fix to be not the issue.
