Slalom on a wakeboard boat

I'm looking to get a new (to me) ski boat that is roomier and more versatile than my Hydrostream. I want a bowrider inboard (Malibu, Mastercraft, etc.) that has a tower and can also be setup to wakesurf - this limits me to a stern-mounted engine as opposed to the classic towboat with a center-mounted engine.

My sport is and always has been slalom, though, so my main concern is getting something that will give me a good slalom wake. Does anyone have experience slaloming behind "wakeboard" style inboards? (Malibu Wakesetter, Supra Launch, etc.) I know I'm giving up a world-class flat wake but I'm okay with that trade-off for versatility - as long as I can get an above average to good slalom wake. I still want to be able to light it up without a tidal wave between me and the buoy! Can these boats be setup to give a good slalom wake?

Re: Slalom on a wakeboard boat

If at all possible I would try before you buy. Since I am way biased to skiing, I would say it is easier to get a ski boat to make bigger wakes, than to get a big-wake boat to trim up for slalom.

The MC 209 or the X9 is a large DD boat that skis pretty well at higher speeds, and from what i've tead, surfs fine with stock ballast.

Malibu LXi with wedge. Tige 20i with TAPS both come to mind. I ski behind a friends LXi 3-5 days a week and love that.

I did a bunch of free skiing over the weekend behind a 2002 Glastron GX180 / 150 outboard. Had lots of fun at 32 off, and nice space in there.
