Went out on my local lake this after and could not by a bite. I think this may be one of only two or three times I have been skunked on this lake. The Monday after easter I went out and it was only in the 40's with the wind howling and I managed a couple of fish I worked for em, forze my butt off but I got a few. Today it was warm and pleasant to be out on the water and all I got was a sunburn. I thought sure those pigs would be on the north west banks where the sun warmed the rocks. No such luck.

Normally They would be staging and in late prespawn mode. Right now they are so screwed up because of this crazy weather we have had around here. Was out all afternoon again today and only managed one small bass. Water temps are barely 50 degrees at the surface. Marked tons of fish in deep water.

Re: Skunk!!

Don't feel bad, I fished a tourny yesterday on a large natural lake with gin clear water(swimming pool quality, I can see my bait laying on the bottom at 18ft ) blue bird sky, high barometric pressure. Managed only one smallie-2.06lbs, 4 or 5 short largemouths, and one 3lbs pike. Fished my arse off for 8 hrs and only brought one to the scale and I have as good a chance as anybody of winning that thing. I think I'm gonna be sick AGAIN :(

Re: Skunk!!

I took off work and fished all day Friday at Lake Arthur in western PA...Nothing but a small Crappie...worst fishing day I have ever experienced in late April. I tried everything. Water temps were about 50 degrees. I am going to give it another shot this Saturday.

Re: Skunk!!

dsiedt, I am from Pa. also. but in the southeast corner. I always see that some of Pennsylvania's Largest come from Arthor every year. I would like to make the drive and try it. What is it like? Is it all built on all the way around like wallenpaupack? Or is it more wooded and less built up. What kinds of structure, Rocks, banks, grass, depths, Any info would be appreciated

Re: Skunk!!

I just move to western PA last year from the Chesapeake Bay area...Late last season I went to Arthur several times with great results...43" pike, walleye, and lots of largemouth bass. The lake is fairly narrow with many coves. Lots of underwater growth. It is about 40' deep at its deepest point. It is protected by Moraine State park, so there is no development and the shoreline is wooded with some grassy areas. There is a 20HP limit. Many campgrounds/cabins nearby but they book quickly.

Other lakes to consider:
Tygart Lake (WV)
Deep Creek (MD)
Conneaut (lots of skiers in summer and is built up)
youghiogheny reservoir (MD/PA border)
Presque Isle (Erie,PA)
pymatuning (PA)
Raystown Lake

The best fishing I have experienced anywhere within 500 miles of where I live is a 3-day canoe float trip from Paw Paw, WV to Hancock, MD. Almost every cast yielded nice smallmouth . It was unreal. I now do this every July.
