SkiTwin lower end oil leak?

I owned a 1962 28HP twin for a couple of years and always had trouble with water in the bottom end. Finally took it for a lower seal and bearing replacement. $185 later it leaked just as bad. Last year I decided to upgrade to a newer motor and bought a 1967 33HP twin on Ebay. It runs great, is slightly more economical than the 28HP and pushes my boat a bit faster BUT I found water in the bottom end at the end of the season (coffee colored lubricant). Is this normal for the big twins?

It is not normal, but it happens. Change the oil at the end of season, NOT at spring. Leave fresh oil in all winther. Be sure to replace seal on both drain and vent plug, these seals are very often the reason for a little water intrusion. When you start boating, take a look at the oil every 10 hrs or so, to see if problem is fixed or reappers. If it only turned a little coffie coloured during a whole season it leaks very little.
