Should I limit my speeds when operating my boat with the transom mounted transducer in the water?
The boat is new to me, arrived with an Eagle Cuda 168 which handily has depth and water temp. The reason for my question is the first time I ran up to 45 mph with some people in the boat, my transducer broke off it's bracket at the pivot.
I have a replacement on order. but should I just tilt it up out of the water at high speeds?

Don't know what you would call high speed, but I have operated up to 45mph with a skimmer in the water giving useful depth readings.

You need to be very meticulous installing that thing exactly according to the directions.

Good luck. :)

If you can return the replacement ducer, then buy a "thru-hull" ducer. This will prevent any possibility of breaking at high speed.

Re: Skimmer Transducer Speeds

Properly installed this should not be an issue. My best guess is one of 2 things. 1. it was damaged or cracked before that happened.."seen boats beached before and damaged from the bottom" or 2. It is mounted too low. Meaning it is sticking too far down under the boat causing too much stress on the mounting bracket. It should be just barely lower than the bottom of the boat.
