Ski recommendation?

Not sure if this forum is the right place to ask, but figured I'd try. I've been slalom skiing for years, but never enough to improve significantly. Last season I skiied several times and after skiing on a decent ski soon realized I REALLY need an upgrade! I used a 67" Connelly F1X, and it was great - very responsive yet plenty stable enough for my ability. I'm looking for a used ski and not knowing much about the equipment am looking for a comparable ski to the F1X.

I'm about 6' and 175 pounds, and I like to ski at about 30-32 mph. Thanks for any input you have.

Re: Ski recommendation?

Welcome. I'm a fan of promoting skiing and updating equipment.
I'm not quite clear on what you are asking.... looking for confirmation that an F1X is a good ski to look for?

Ideally you would have the opportunity to try 3 or 4 different skis and pick the one that works the best for you. I have not skied on the F1X but have read some positive reviews. However if you tried the Connelly and it felt really good, I would simply look for one of those. Really there are so many great skis out there in the past 5-6 years it is hard to go too wrong.

The F1X is a slightly wider version of the Connelly F1 - which used to be their top of the line tournament ski. The F3 or Concept (same ski - just different names where the same shape as the F1 but in a softer more forgiving flex and one of those might be something to look for if you can't find the F1X. The 67 is probably the correct size.

The O'Brien Synchro is another slightly wider ski that get's good reviews, same with the HO Triumph.

Re: Ski recommendation?

Try a local waterski shop and see if they have demos. I know that around here you can get demo skis from MN Inboard and Lake Elmo watersports (or you could the last time I checked). You can also buy their demos or new/old stock this time of year, which can save you a bunch of $$$. The last one I bought from MN Inboard was a previous year ski, still in the wrap for about 40% of original price.

Re: Ski recommendation?

Thanks for the advice guys. Skibrain, to clarify, yes, I am looking for a F1X because I know it like it but also looking for ideas for a comparable ski. I just don't know much about skis and looking for a place to start. Your link was helpful. Oldjeep, I will probably demo some skis, but looking for advice up-front from someone who isn't trying to sell me something, if you know what I mean!

Thanks again, helpful info.

Re: Ski recommendation?

LONG wait on my reply, but thanks for the advice. I ended up buying an HO Triumph late in the season, and love it. Very good balance of stability and performance for my ability. Only got to use it a couple times before summer was officially over in Wisconsin!

Thanks again - lots of good information.

Re: Ski recommendation?

I enjoy my Triumph as well. I'm running on the 69" version with double animal bindings. Very comfortable, easy to get up on for deep water starts, and is aggressive enough for most intermediate skiers.
