In a sterndrive how much higher than the back of the boat does the ski pylon need to be?
This is the boat. In this pick you can make out the pylon. How much higher than the rear rails should it be?

Re: Ski pylon height?

your pylon looks pretty normal to me Ideal when you are sking out there is that the rope is pulling about kneck hieght so that when you hold the rope around waist hieght it is pulling on a slight upwards angle but not to much that you cant pull straight back on it. my pole is adjustable and it goes anywhere from 3-5 feet from the boat floor so as long as you are somewhere in there you should be good.

Re: Ski pylon height?

If you are skiing it looks to be perfect, if you do a lot of wakeboarding it is on the low side for sure. Five feet above the rails sounds way too high to me. For skiing, look at a true ski boat or one used in ski comps the top of the pylon is about 6-12" above the engine cover of an inboard. The reason wakeboarders use such high towers or pylons is to get the lift off the wake. When skiing lift off the wake is the last thing you want, a good waist to shoulder constant pull is what you are after. Just my .02 (30 yrs slalom)
