Last summer I was out at the lake and i turned over my Polaris SL750 and when I rolled it over and it never started running right again. At first it would run at 30mph at top speed and then it gradually got slow to now all it does is 10mph at most. It sounds like it possible is not getting enough gas but it starts up and runs. I think it is just old gas but I was wondering if I could use any fuel injector cleaner or gas cleaner to help it run like it was new. Or could it possibly be something else. It has brand new spark plugs and new oil.

What did the old plugs look like when you took them out? Did the possibly have a build up of grey like material on any of them?

Do a compresion check and let us know what you find. I am wondering if you have a water ingestion problem!

Re: Ski not running

What would that require to do a compression check?
I am siphoning the gas out of the tank right now and thought I would go put some new gas in and see if it would run better!

Re: Ski not running

you must have a compresion gage. If you don't have one, ask some of your mechanic type friends to use one. Remove plugs, screw gage into hole crank motor over. Record reading and go to next hole doing the same. If you can not find anyone that has one, either rent one, or get a cheaper one from Auto Zone/Sears, about $20.00.

Alright, 2 of the 3 heads have a compression of 75psig or 5kg/cm, and the other head as a preesure of 0. Does this meen I blew a head gasket?

No, you ingested water and took out a cylinder. Its going to require a complete teardown to check rods, and crank. New pistons, rings, cylinder honed. Water inside a 2 stroke is a very nasty thing! Sorry the news could not be better!

Re: Ski not running

Well Damn. How much do you think it will cost to have it fixed at a shop?

I don't want to answer that, I have given you enough bad news for 1 day! Untill you get it tore down and see what all is bad, your not gonna know cost anyway. If you are not capable of doing this yourself, or have someone that would do it as a side job, you may want to consider getting a rebuilt engine that you just exchange yours for. I would not go this route, as I run my stuff very hard, and I want to know whats in there. Here is a link to a place that has a rebuilt for you for $900.00. web pageYou may also be able to get some help at jet ski forums so far as finding someone that is close to you that may do the job for you, or guide you through it. Where are you from? If you want some jet ski links, or if I can help in any other way, let me know.

Re: Ski not running

parts will run you more then already rebiuld engine ...in fact im looking for the same kind of engine to buy ..the cheapest i found so far is $700 for fully rebiuld 750 engine ..i was trying to rebiuld it my self but pistons run around 300 plus gakets and all the other parts you may need its just not worth it ...depnding how much the ski is worth to you ..you may wanna consider selling it as-is and insted of buying new engine put the money toward the new ski ..i got 95 polaris 750 as well only reason im keeping it is showroom condition of the body ...no to mention i got it for 200 bux with blown engine ..and after spending another 700 ill have basicly a new condition ski ..
where are you located ?

thanks

Dom
