Hoping someone with MUCH more knowledge than me can help me out with a little electrical problem. I have a 2001 Ski Centurion with a 5.7L Mercruiser, carbed engine. The far right gauge cluster houses my fuel level (top left), amps (top right), oil pressure (bottom left) and water temp (bottom right). I was on the water today when I first lost my water temp reading. The needle dropped past 0 and and faces the 3o'clock position when it normally is about 9 o'clock registering a good temp. The oil pressure did the same thing. Fearing I lost my impeller, I checked that and it was pumping water just fine. My oil pressure was also ok. I checked the back of the gauges and all wires are in tact. Any suggestions on a good place to start?

Although the wires are in tact, the electricity that is supposed to be on them probably isn't. You need a test light or a voltmeter to perform testing. Any gauge needs +12 volts with the ignition on, ground, and the signal from from the sender whether that be oil pressure, fuel, tach, or water temp. Gauges like the pitot speedometer, ammeter and hour meter only need +12 volts and ground. Since the gaiuges that have become inoperative are fed a signal from the engine, I would look at the engine wiring to see if a plug has become disconnected, loose or corroded. Connections on the oil pressure sender and water temp sender should be checked as well. It is highly unlikely that both of those senders went bad at the same time so I suspect this is a wiring issue.

Thank you very much for your quick response. I have the test lights and meters so I'll start poking around today.
