Hi, new to the forum and looking for some advice. I have a 1988 ski centurion falcon. I just installed a brand new steering cable and helm, replaced the pivot ball connector at the back and redid the rudder stuff box, the boat always tracked perfectly straight at any speed with the old stiff steering cable but now as soon as I hit 32mph the boat zig zags like crazy. I haven't even tried skiing behind it yet because of the darting all over the place. Have done some reading on rudder tuning but don't even know where to start... the boat does have slight pull to the left at speeds below 32mph but as soon as I hit that speed the wheel starts moving left and right and I zig zag.

The tiller arm is tight and no play and there is no play in the rudder.

Of not the boat does have an older mastercraft rudder on it.

Any advice is truly appreciated!

Hi Brett,

I'm new to the forum too, and I was just into the steering on a 1993 Falcon XP (open bow) that I'm restoring. We put in a new steering cable last week and did all of the hook ups. I'm not experiencing what you're describing. We put the boat in the water for 2 hrs last Saturday and the steering worked fine. I'll ask my cousin if he has any ideas on this since he's the mechanic expert and has/had 3 Falcons.

If you did get it fixed, would you mind posting what the issue was? I'd like to know what to look for going forward if this issue arises.

Thanks,
Tim
