I am looking to buy a ski boat. My budget is $10-$12K.
I am looking for any feedback about different boat manufactures, and the advantages and disadvantages of each. I am looking for an inboard, and will be using it mostly for wakeboarding. In the research I have done so far I am leaning towards the Nautiques and Mastercrafts in the late 80's (due to quality & performance), but lately have heard good things about the Ski Centurions. I have also heard that these boats are overpriced compared to the Mooba.
Any feedback on these boats or advice as to what boats I should consider, and the advantages of each would be great.

There won't be any Moombas from the late '80s. They started up in '92 . Ski boats are built over a range of prices and quality. Just like any other kind of boat. In any event for boats as old as are being considered here the condition of the actual boat counts for more than the brand.

Kelly Cook

Thanks Kelly
I guess my question around the Moobas is. Should I be looking at the Moobas for their lower price and are they of comparable quality to the MasterCraft and Natiques?

Moombas are lower priced. Which I like. If I were shopping, Moomba would be on my list. But no, they are not built as well as Mastercraft. Haven't looked closely at a Nautique, so I won't comment on that one. Moomba vs Mastercraft is kind of like VW vs Mercedes. The VW is a good car, will do everything the Mercedes will do. Not everybody wants to pay a Mercedes price. But Mercedes really is better built. (Sorry I couldn't think of any Canadian brands for this comparison ;) )

Kelly

Re: Ski Boat General Information & Feedback

I've had the opprotunity to kneeboard behind nearly every brand of inboard ski boat that were made in the 60's thru mid 90's... Correct Craft (Ski Nautique) are the finest inboard ski boats in quality and performance, followed very closely by Mastercraft and Malibu... Everything else, I would'nt even look at em'...

I had two Nautiques, a 1960 (the first year, and mfg'd. and by Glasscraft not correct craft) and a 1979... For wakeboarding and kneeboarding the older Nautiques have a good wake in both size and shape... Very sharp crest to the wake and excellent lift...

Ski Centurion makes a very nice boat, but the older ones from the late 80's and early 90's had poor low speed wakes that offered very little lift... They were mainly intended for tournament slalom sking with a very small wake.. The wakes were "washy" and also un-even at low speeds meaning one side of the wake would be better than the other side... This also applies to Supra's TS6M... (I had one for years)

Re: Ski Boat General Information & Feedback

Hey there CharlieSheen. I too am looking for an inboard wakeboard boat. I was almost sold on Moomba for the low price. Until I read alot of bad things about Moomba's quality. Not so much about Skier's Choice but just the Moomba line. So i've started looking at other boats. I have two friends, one with an older M.C. Prostar and one with an older Natique. They both have alot of hours and both still run pretty good. And most importantly they both throw sick wakes.(properly weighted of course). I don't if this changes your decision or not, but it sure changed mine.
