If i pull off the lower unit is it safe on the internals to weld a skeg on? Assuming welder goes slow, it would be a prop shop and not just any welder.

take it to your marina that advertises skeg repair. in most cases, no reason to remove the lower. they weld in place.

the last skeg I had repaired, the guy was done prior to my lunch next door

most of the time they use a thermal block putty to protect the bearings, etc.

Exactly. Done slow is not an option. If the welder told you that they aren't a welder.

Do like Scott said and take it to a place that can do it. My friend snapped his off and found a prop shop to weld a new one on for $100. Looked like new.
