I have been looking to repair my skeg it's on a 99 bravo 1 with a 7.4 merc.i have been surfing the net and found several products 1,skeg gaurd 2,skeg pro 3.black fin or 4,river runner.....any oppinions on theise products ? the only thing i noted is the skeg pro would not be big enough to cover my dammage...I tend to like the river runner becaus of the protection it offers. on the other hand the black fin is made of composit meteral i wonder if that is better????

Re: Skeg repair advice

If I am not mistaking when I had my Bravo 1 I bought and used the "skeg gaurd", mine looked and worked great. All I had to do was drill two holes and bolt away and I was done. The only draw back I noticed was that it would fill with water and never drain. So I drilled two tiny holes at the base and then it would drain all the water out of the skeg gaurd.

I had one of the stainless skeg guards on my last boat. It worked very well and I think I would trust it for protection a lot more than I would one made from a composite material.

Re: Skeg repair advice

I need one too, half my skeg is gone thanks to some hungry rocks. I was looking at the Skeg Guard and also the Black Fin that just came out, or at least I've never seen it till now. I'm leaning toward that one cuz it's the cheapest, lightest, and its black! I also like the horizontal fins on the side, might help a little getting up on plane. River Runnuer is the most expensive and looks kinda heavy and looks like it might cause some drag. And I don't like the way it bolts to the side of the skeg. BUT, the River Runner looks to be the best for protection, so...

Re: Skeg repair advice

My skeg was bent and I installed a Skeg Guard. It works great and I think it looks good. Last time out I dinged some rocks and it protected what it was suppose to. I would recommend the Skeg Guard.:)
