Hello All, new member here.
Does anyone know where I can find a skeg guard for a Volvo penta SX-A? I bought one and installed it but it didn't fit right. I made the mistake of drilling the holes even after realizing that it didn't fit right thinking it's just a skeg. What a dumb mistake on my part. After realizing how dumb of a mistake I made, I decided to call the marine shop to see if they could fill in the hole and fix the skeg and was told that they could do it for $145 and make it look like it never happened. My only concern is heat transfer.
I figured since I drilled the hole why not talk to my local machine shop. After going back and forth and talking to my local machine shop and explaining what I needed done, I was told that they could make a skeg guard out of stainless steel. I showed them the skeg guard that I had and was told that they could make one similar but made to fit and possibly form around the skeg. The only issue is that they want me to buy a minimum of 20 skeg guards and also charge me for design and some other fees related to configuration of their machines. If I knew that others might be interested then I might consider having them made, but would rather just buy one from a vendor if anyone knows a skeg guard that fits the SX-A.
