Gentlemen...experts, what size of boat and type would you recommend I get to get around with my 8hp outboard? I would use it for fishing in lakes, but I want it to be safe overall. Thanks!
You'll be safe with pretty much any boat you put that engine on. It's not going to overpower much of anything. Look for a aluminum John boat about 10'. Any smaller boat won't be of much use, and any bigger isn't going to go anywhere with that power.
Hello and thanks for replying to my message!
Is there anything like weight or length that restrict a certain boat from being equipped with certain horsepower engine? Could you direct me to a reference. I definitely need to get on board as far as learning about marine entertainment hobby. Thanks to all of you guys! I really enjoy and learn from reading about all the issues discussed in this bulleting board. I think I am getting adicted.... Je! Je!
A buddy of mine has a 14' long x 4' wide V-bottom boat. He uses it for duck hunting and fishing. He rigged the trolling motor battery in front under seat. He has a 9Hp Johnson and it planes out well with (2) guys and fishing / hunting gear. Distributing the weight can make a world of difference in handling and performance. Good luck.
