Need to know the size of the o-ring between the power trim motor and the pump underneath and also the size of the o-ring between the pump and the trim housing. I have not dissassembled it yet but they look like they're probably the same size. Motor is a 1994 Merc V6, serial # starts with 0D0, design II power trim unit, (newer style motor and pump that are separate and trim fills from back side of reservoir,) Mercury only shows these o-rings as part of a $65 kit. Replacement pumps ship with the o-ring.. so someone knows what size they are.

The pump base and pump to trim housing orings are the same size I measured them at .065" thick and the boss on the trim pump motor where they sit is 2.750 inches.

Sometimes this info is in the Mercury Service manual, in the PTT section.

Thank you very, very much for the prompt information.

PS: When I have to eventually replace my 3 wire motor, would you recommend a 3-wire or the 2-wire with the "conversion kit". Using in saltwater so does one or the other have less stray voltage or ground better?

I don't think the 2 wire or 3 wire are superior to each other.

Changing over to the 2 wire motor would be a bunch more expense, as you need two relays and a wiring harness. List price is probably $150 for those items.

I would therefore stick with the three wire motor/solenoid combo. Eventually they could be phased out by Merc, but maybe aftermarket will still exist.

If you ever need a major repair on your PTT unit, you will probably find parts very expensive. i.e,My tilt cylinder casting corroded causing an oil leak. A new tilt cylinder is $800 list, and I could not find it cheaper. A new PTT unit was found for $930, so I ended up swapping the whole unit for new. The new PTT unit only comes as a 2 wire, with the relays and wiring harness included.
