I used to slay esoxes with one or two of those on an undressed, tandem #5 Mepps. Some big walleyes, too.

Anyone know where I can get some. . . or a mold to make them?

Is an "esox" more or less than a "butt-load?" I never heard the term.

BTW, I've heard that with a soldering iron & some old plastic worms, a guy could make any kind of multi-legged creature he wants. Wrap some coathangar wire around the element to do the actual soldering with.

Re: Six legged Mister Twister?

They looked a lot like an octopus missing 2 arms, Barlow. Each arm was like a 2" twister curlytail grub. They were used to dress jigs, mostly; like the skirts are today.

I haven't seen them on the market in a long time, and at my age that may be 25 or 30 years.

JTexas. "Esox" is the name of a family of fish that includes esox lucius (northern pike family), esox masquinongy (musky family) and the pickerel family that I don't know the latin name for.

The esoxes I sought were, as today, muskys. I caught a lot of the others, too, as well as some huge walleyes.

JB, How many are you looking for?? And what color??

I agree, those were effective, as you already know. I used those over 20 years ago, great pike bait. Casting a sucker, tipped with one could be hair raising. I'm sure I still have some chartreuse one's laying around. A fishing pal of mine may still have his mold for them too.

Re: Six legged Mister Twister?

The shank of the hook goes through the center, Barlow.

The way I used them was to rig 2 of them on #2 trebles and hang them in tandem behind the Mepps Aglia #5 inline spinner. Great action. I called that lure "The Dirty Dozen". Didn't have much luck with them on jigs; maybe that's why they disappearred from the market.

I came up with the "Esox Doom" with spinnerbait skirts when I couldn't find the 6 armed curlytails anymore.

Re: Six legged Mister Twister?

I remember that one well JB. The Esox Doom that we traded for had a brief but feisty time..The good part was that is does catch fish..The down side is that once that 8lb Northern got through running through every cabbage patch around there wasn't much left after she chewed on it for about ten minutes..

Here it is Barlow... The lure is on the far right side. You ought to see the size of the lumber I sent him..A friend of mine use to make em..
It seems to me that Ladyfish wanted some fishn Earrings at one time....I will try and find a pic of that Lure...Its a one of the kind ear wang hanger onner

Having one of those days..LFs ear hanger onner is at the bottom of this pic..That grub is about five inches long not counting the rest of the lure..Like ta see her dangle two of these on her hangers. Now what was that fairy tale that had something do with ears?

I gotta whole mess of those things, JB. I've tried to use them on jig heads with little success. I've got somewheres around 25 or so, in a few different colors...if ya want them, I'd send ya the bag.

Re: Six legged Mister Twister?

JB you may want to look at some of the new soft plastics that are on the market. They are scented now and many have 4 to 6 legs with tails. They are much more effective that the soft plastics 20 years ago.

Ok JB, here's how I'm interpreting this:

- starting with a std. #5 Aglia
- cut off the treble
- split ring it with a heavy #3 split ring
- dress both #2 trebles by inserting hook shank through body of dressing enough to clear hook eye

** insert a double looped (.05) wire through one of the dressed hooks by sliding it through the dressing
along the hook shank (on appropriate side of hook shank) exposing the loop to line up with the hook eye.**

- attach prior mentioned dressed hook/wire to previously installed split ring on Aglia
- add another heavy #3 split ring to empty wire loop
- attach to empty split ring
- ?glue dressing?

(whew!).. is this what we're looking at, JB?

"Esox Doom" looks like a good bet too ..

LadyFish .. isn't that what some of those things are supposed to do?.. :p

Re: Six legged Mister Twister?

You are making it more complicated than necessary, Barlow.

1. Select a #5 Mepps, undressed or with destroyed dressing. Cut the hook off.

2. Select 2 #2 trebles. Mount a 6 arm curlytail (or a spinnerbait skirt, backwards) on each.

3. Splitring one to the Mepps.

4. Splitring the second hook to the junction of 2 hooks on the first treble.

VIOLA! You have a Dirty Dozen or a Esox Doom.

Because you are assembled with splitrings it only takes a few minutes to replace chewed up dressings or change to a different color.

Booner: If I can come up with a mold I plan to mold some with the new-tech plastics and color schemes.

MY. Don't know about the ducky, but either will get a lot more strikes from bigger fish than a bare Mepps.

Kenny: Thanks, amigo, but I want to make some with new-tech plastic and try to get a firetiger color scheme.

I think with either of them color matters, depending on the water and the season. I have had success with all black and with firetiger and chartreuse.

Re: Six legged Mister Twister?

gotchya, JB.

I'll spin a few "Musky Doom's" up and post a pic of the results so we can at least have a good chuckle at my attempt.

If it ends up that you mold those things JB I'd be willing to pay you for a hand full of 'em or barter something..
