I have been seeing a big fall off of the number of new daily posts to this forum sinse the upgrade. Have also seen a lot of complaining. SO come on fellow members don't you all think that the IT crew and owners of this site are not sweating bullets. It's all about HITS count that keep this forum going, without the HITS this site may close down. Hits generate income for the owners of this site. They are doing this as a service and source of income for thier business. Seems we all forget that.

If people quit coming and stop using this site it will become defunked! Then what? Where will you go to get your questions answered?

They will and are going some where else, I have noticed the same thing as you, activity for this time of year has fallen off completely, I feel for iboats as it has been a great place to get free advice and information, I am not sure how that correlates to business but I am sure it has some affect but at some point a hard decision has got to be made, only iboats knows when that decision will be made though, for an internet based company I can't imagine it would be long.

I in no way feel that iboats IT is to blame for this disaster though this is a software collapse if I have ever seen one. People complain, its human nature, but the one thing that will make something happen is the almighty dollar.

What a sad deal this is.

My thoughts are that the difficulty in navigating the site and the frequent error messages have kept the posting activity down, rather than a desire on the membership's part. I know for myself, I have posted less, due to the operating conditions of the site, but still have managed to post quite a few messages.

Everybody feels badly about how the upgrade has played out. My biggest concern is if the things wrong with the system (software + database) can actually be fixed :noidea:

As long as the back ups have been maintained, then anything can be fixed, worst thing, it takes time and depending on who owns the servers it can take money, in my wife's case it is time as we own all of our own servers, which also has its downfalls, especially when hardware pukes on you and it is in a different city far away from you, then you have to depend on someone else to install the new parts for you.

My sentiments exactly tpenfield! IMO, This was the best forum on the internet! I keep coming here hoping they've gotten all the bugs worked out, only to be disappointed each time. This is definitely going on too long, over 2 wks! Testing the patience of the most patient people. I keep giving it more time in between, hoping it will all fall into place,,,, but, no, it just becomes more difficult to use. This site is like a jigsaw puzzle with a bunch of pieces missing, hopefully they will find them, and soon?

I don't agree, every single time I visit, I see better functionality, and more stability, based on how this started, the site is way more stable than it was even a couple of days ago. That is the problem with the advent of the internet, everybody wants and expects instant gratification, often times it won't be instant. I will continue to have the patience and watch the improvements, because they are happening daily and sometimes almost hourly.

No doubt the forum is working better. Do we have a ways to go? You bet. But we're getting there. iboats has put all their resources possible towards fixing the issues. We still can expect some interruptions during this process. All we can do is be patient......... I know that sounds like a broken record, but it is what it is......

This is moot at this point, but why wasn't a BETA version brought up prior to shifting to the new program. The forum could have continued on as usual with those who wanted to go play on the new forum being able to do so. There are always plenty of savvy persons willing to break in a new version. With the continuous Data Base errors, site down times, duplicate posting, time outs and all the other errors occurring here, a lot of people can't make it work. It works well if you have patients in posting and don't mind the frequent inaccessibility to the site, lost post count, the current one I am seeing is you can post but you number of posts does not rise, at least that's whats happening to me today! I hope it gets fixed! I like this forum a lot and thought of it as the best operated forum I've used until the update/upgrade. Who or what is the real cause of this whole disaster? If it's this Vbulletin, why aren't they fixing their own software issues, or is it the way Iboats is using it. It's destroying an excellent forum I'm personally sad about all that is happening here, but am going to try to hang in there, at least for awhile.:):blue::mad::eek::sleeping: HAPPY BOATING, after all, isn't that what it is really all about!!!!!!!!!.

Update: Got another post count on this one. An example of the instability of the whole thing. Not that post count really means anything in the real world. Just an example.

I cannot change my signature, nor my avatar, I don't even know if I can send, and receive private messages! I sent one out last week, and never got a reply! My subscriptions are like scrambled eggs, with parts missing, I can't even make heads, or tails out of it! And after going on more then 2wks, you're still asking me to sit tight, and wait! I've been on other forums that crossed over in the space of a wknd, without much, if any issues afterward.

Don't patronize me!!! I don't like it!

Who the heck is patronizing? Man, talk about way over reacting, you have people with much more knowledge on these types of issues trying to explain things and you are exploding, you are going to give your self a heart attack, it is simply internet forum system, not life or death!

So don't yell at other people!

Personally, I really could care less if my post count goes up, that is not something I pay attention to.

I have been to a few of the "other" forums and they by no means have the particapation that this site has. I have seen questions asked that took days to get a response. Besides I believe this site has some of the most knowlageable people involved as members. It would be a shame to loose those people or this resource.

Personally I think anyone not happy with the way things are going and can't live with it, the door isn't locked. It's not like you don't have a choice where you spend your Internet time. Life goes on!

YELLING, I WASN"T YELLING, This would be Yelling!
My post was mainly for you,,, Don't tell me to take a chill pill, and settle down all will be well soon,,, that's patronizing! I don't see much, if any improvement since I logged on at the beginning of this changeover, I wouldn't dare call it an "upgrade".. Everything is an extra step to do, and it's always "iffy" if it gets posted! Plus nothings changed with customizing my profile, nor sending, & receiving messages. This site is so slow, moving around, sometimes I feel like I'm on dial up again  Show me a little progress at least, and I'll be happy.

Ok, I'll tell you to take a chill pill. You know the situation. Constant complaining isn't going to help. And yes, there has been progress resolving forum issues.....

What everyone must realize is the site was tested. We worked on glitches, we got it to where it was operating pretty well. That all took time. Then came the change-over/upgrade. And there lies the problem. What we tested was a fresh install. We he have here is an upgrade. The upgrade isn't working the way it should. And before you say, well, just delete everything and do a fresh install, that would be a lose of data that no one would be happy with. iboats has lots of resources working on this and they are trying to get answers and responses from vBulletin. It is a work in process and it has gotten a little better. We are not there yet, and it will be a while till we are. Till then, have patience, and if it is too much for you to deal with, just bow out quietly and come back in a week or two and see where we are at that time. No one has patronized anyone. MTboatguy has some great insight because of what he does. He understands what is happening and is sympathetic to those that are working tirelessly to fix it for all ... even the complainers.

So, EVERYONE needs to take a deep breath and relax. iboats will be back and in a big way. Hang in there if you can.
