I'm sure you will still have a job. Things happen. How about accidently cutting a main telephone trunk line along US Route 1. Yup, I put out most of Northern Virginia for a few hours (1977). I was running a piece of heavy equipment that got mired in the mud alond the road and next thing I knew all sorts of colored wires...I do know that slow motion feeling

Bob

Crab - you might be a redneck if you thought of calling your boss and telling him you were just testing the emergency services hookup.... and yep - it works! :(

Bob - you're not alone with that kind of incident. About ten years ago I was in central Auckland city and just happened to be walking past a crew working down a manhole on the pavement. Would you believe it... but just as I walked past I heard (from down the manhole) someone shout out "WHAT THE F*** HAVE YOU JUST DONE?"

Apparently one of the boys down there had just gas axed completely through one of those huge multi-core telecoms cables - leading into our central telephone exchange. Half of Auckland city lost their phone connections for about a week while they sorted it out. I still can't believe that I happened to be walking past to hear the very first expletive of many to be borne by that sorry incident...

I hope this makes you feel better Crab...

Hey Kiwi, can ya tell me what a gas axe is? We rednecks love our power tools. I've never heard of a gas axe.

I always considered a chain saw motor driven cut off wheel as a gas axe but the favorite is the Smoke wrench! A good torch.

Bob

EFHenry & Bob

I try to avoid using our "down-under" slang where ever possible, but this one just slipped through, sorry.

A "gas axe" means a big & very hot blow torch (acetylene gas I think) - usually used to cut through anything metal very quickly. It would cut a car in half in two minutes. I'm sure you have them too but call them something else. A very handy yet dangerous (power) tool!

Wouldn't take long to cut through a big cable either.. :D
