Single cylinder 4 strokes

Does anyone have any experience with a single cylinder four stroke outboard? I'm in the market for a new kicker since my '65 evinrude 5 hp has died for the final time (after thousands of hours and multiple rebuilds - I could take that motor apart in my sleep). I use the kicker primarily for trolling on Lake Michigan for Trout and Salmon. I'm currently debating the weight of a two cylinder 4 stroke (>100lbs) vs the vibration possibility of a single cylinder outboard (although much lighter in weight). Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Howdy, Redskin. Both Evinrude and Yamaha list their 8hp twin 4 strokes at 83lb. The Honda is about 90.

I think you would find a 4 stroke single about as smooth as your OMC 6 twin.

Welcome to the best boat board on the net!

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Those small OMC 2-stroke twins are sweet running motors. The 4-stroke singles sound a lot like a lawn mower motor.
