this is probably a stupid question but here goes...on the subject vintage control box which handle is the shift and which is the gas??? I thought I knew but when I went to put it together after a very long restoration period the cable ends were opposite to what I thought were correct. Also can anyone point me to a doc that describes how to adjust the cables correctly and what are the preferred length of cables for specific distances..thanks cliff

Short handle is shift, long one is throttle. Length is long enough to lay in the boat and make not-too-tight bends. Newer cables have plastic adjusting nuts at the motor end, older ones are not adjustable.
