Hello,

I sold my buddy a mid-80's 15HP evinrude last year. I only had it a short time, had it totally gone through by a shop with a good reputation. Motor ran great!! He's let it set a little over a year and when he tried to get it going this weekend it wouldn't? Anything SIMPLE he should look at before he takes it to the shop?

THANKS!

Spark, fuel and compression. That's all you need. If you want to keep it SIMPLE and not do any trouble shooting, atleast spray some wd-40 in the carb(choke open) while pulling it over. If you want to actualy trouble-shoot this thing....just ask.
:)

My guess, most likely fuel related If engine was running when put away. Fuel sitting in Carb for a year will gum up and clog up everything. I would clean carb and get some fresh fuel and see if it runs before letting someone else do it for me.

Re: Simple solution?

Before attemting a rebuild of the carb, do as schematic suggests, spray WD40 into the carb while trying to start. This adds both fuel and lubricant to the engine preventing any damage if it starts. If it starts/splutters with WD40 then your spark is good and you probably would want to rebuild the carb.
