Hello all,

I was going to order my general maintenance parts when I noticed something odd. On the schematic for mt 87' J60TLCUC 60 hp, it shows using part # 0311598 (nylon washer) for the vent screw on the lower unit, and using part # 0332681 (o-ring) for the fill screw. Is this correct? I've always used both(on other engines), the nylon washer would fit in the groove for it, and the o-ring would go on the bottom of the screw. Did they just show it that way to save some drafting costs? I'll post a link to the schematic I'm looking at...Part 42 and 46A. If it matters, the engine came with a magnetic plug on both the top and the bottom...I've only seen them on the bottom before.

Re: Simple question

There is a gearcase design that uses the traditional slotted drain plug and 311598 washer on the bottom but up above it uses a smaller screw with a raised head as the vent screw that has a small o-ring to seal it.

Re: Simple question

The plugs have the same threads in the g/c. If the plug has a flat surface you use the 311598 washer. If the plug has a place in it for the oring use the 332681 oring. Don't ask me why OMC did this as I never did figure it out. Just don't intermix the washers and orings with the different plugs.
