She's been a HARD worker for the last 18 years, hardly ever a problem. Power pak or 2, but all else, great.

While running down the lake yesterday, yeah, the 4th of July, Anout 20 miles down lake form my truck and trailer, 4000rpms, 50 MPH (Ranger Bass boat 354XT) just cruising, CLICKY-CLACK-SEIZE!

Earlier that morning, while I was fueling her up, (on the trailer, gas station) I had the key on to watch the fuel gauge, alarm starts chirping. First kinda quietly, then louder, and steady. No, the engine was not running...(weird)
I had a tank oil float problem a while back (I read, a very common problem) so a disconnected the wire from the oil tank only.

I put a new gallon of oil in her resevoir tank, backed her into the water, Same alarm as soon as I turn on the key! Running or not. Hot or cold!
Water PSI was excellant, as always. Strong stream.
Sooooo, what did I do? The only stupid thing to do. Disconnect the alarm, thinking there is another malfunction.

Well, 20 miles and 30~40 minutes later, Fatality!

I am suspecting a VRO failure or lack of lube/fuel psi somewhere, causing seizure.

I am about to pull the power head and send to the shop, any ideas of other things I should do while I'm in there, othere than the obvious?

(I know I have it coming so go ahead!)

Well, Good news! iT'S not engine, It's the lower unit. (I wish I would havepulled it first!)
But anyway, no gear oil, only water. Shift shaft and beyond works fine. Just drive shaft froze.

Already did. I didnt know there was a "low drive fluid alarm" on those.

Did some reading and it looks like the pinion gear/bearing has seized up due to lack of fluid.

Any ideas on a repair cost from a reputable shop?

Thet (SEi) Deff has a replacement for $845.00, but I would like to compare rebuild prices first.
