I just left West Marine. A sales person informed me that none of his plotter/;sounders with sideview options would work well on boats having dual I/Os or inboards. He explained that cavitation caused issues. This didn't happen with dual outboards.

I don't know if he's right or wrong, but I do know that the people that work at WM don't own boats, have never been on one, and didn't read any of the boating manuals.

I go there often - whenever I have a part number and don't want to wait until EBay delivers it.

I used to shop at West years ago and I was in one the other day and they have not upped their knowledge level since the last time I was there, it is best to research the parts you want and then just walk in pick up and buy it and be happy without the rhetoric that you get from their people.

I have a Humminbird Helix 10 with side imaging. Cavitation isn't the problem. The problem is side imaging can't see through an out drive. I get imaging out the right side but not the left side unless I raise the drive some.

My SR has 23 degrees of deadrise and dual I/Os, which should help if I mount the transom transducer as close as possible towards keel. The I/Os are further away from keel. I suspect WM sales staff also deals with do-it-yourselfers who do not study all the variables. THX!

The guy at WM doesn't have a clue.

There are a number of thru hull options to address the issue
