I have an Evinrude Triumph 55hp that has no top end. It runs very nicely up to about 3/4 throttle then it cuts back. Still runs smooth but loses rpms and power. I have changed the gas tank, fuel line from gas tank to motor, fuel pump, all fuel lines, and rebuilt the carbs. What have I missed? Can anyone help?

stwilliam54
You did not say what mod or year. I have an old v4 50 hp evinrude. At about 3/4 throtle (on mine) is when the carb starts to open, so I would check the carb, float/s, highspeed adjustment/s. The is if yours works the same way. Need more info, lots of good info here!
Richard

Re: sick Evinrude 55hp

It's a 1969 Triumph. I put new rebuild kits in the carbs. I cannot find any high speed adjustment on them, only the low speed adjustment. The owners or service manual do not show a high speed adjustment either. As I said everything is new in the fuel system right from the tank to carbs. I'm really going crazy trying to figure this thing out. I've also changed the points and coil. I'm going to change the amplifier box next. After that I don't know what else to do.

Re: sick Evinrude 55hp

I now have the problem narrowed down to three things. The wiring, (which has crumbling insulation), the stator under the flywheel, or the amplifier box. I am thinking that some of the wires may be shorting since the insulation is falling apart. I was not prepared to hear from the dealer that the amplifier box cost in excess of $300.00. If that's the problem it may be time to winterize.
