This motor has been giving me trouble for several months now and I'm tired of chasing gremlins. Two weeks ago it started skipping a cylinder while I was on a charter. The usual fixes had no affect so the Dr made a house call. The Yamaha mechanic diagnosed a bad head gasket (4 cylinders 100-102 lbs, 2 cylinders 88-89 lbs compression) I pulled the head on the weak side and found a perfect gasket, but two looser-than-should-be pistons.
I'm not going to spend the $ to rebuild this motor, and have purchased a 2001 SWSII 250. Not much on the 225 is compatible so rather than keep it for parts, I'm selling it complete. I recently replaced the trim motor, TPS, a fuel pump, water pump and thermostats. The carbs have been cleaned and are fine. Tilt/trim system is strong. I've never had a problem with the lower unit, but I'm keeping my prop. This motor also comes with its old but functional hydraulic steering system less the wheel.
I bought this motor on the boat 7 months ago and have no idea as to how many actual hours are on it. The motor was running (although roughly) when I took it off the boat 11/11/01 and is now inside a wharehouse in Apalachicola. This is a good candidate for rebuilding or as a spare if you already have one. I'm asking $1500 OBO for the whole package you come and get it. Email me at grayshep@yahoo.com for more details.
