I changed my raw water pump and belts on my volvo penta 5.0 gxi. When I started it up, it ran great for about 10 minutes, then all of the sudden a shrill noise started coming from the thermostat area and the motor began to bog down. I quickly turned it off.

Has anyone had this happen before? Is this an alarm or something else? How can I fix this?

Thanks for our help.

Is it a serpentine or V belt? Tensioned correctly? Any water leaking possibly getting on the belt????

Something seized up. Take all your belts off and spin everything and see how they feel. Is you water pump mounted on the front of the crankshaft or seperate and driven by a belt?

What is your full model number?
