Should I replace it?

I am changing my drive cable and was wondering if i can just slide the new inner core cable inside and leave the old outer sheath cable in place?

NO, no matter what you might be working on.

Ayuh,.... It's usually the Outer with the Groove worn into it.... The Inners are usually just Fine...
