I came across an old lady today that was getting rid of her boat. The boat is trashed but is has a mercury 1500 on it. She has no idea about the motor. She said the local marina told her it would be 800 to get it up and running. She is now scraping the trailer and want 100.00 for the motor. Would it be worth picking the motor up

I would buy it, it's too much fun to tinker with. Nothing to lose, you could decide to scrap it, repair it and sell it, or sell parts. Either of the three would likely result in at least $100

Heck the prop is worth 100 bucks.
If the local marina said 800 bucks, you could probably get it running for under 400.
If you are mechanical.

I agree, have you seen the price of used coils, used lower units, starters, and props on Ebay? For $100 you can't lose even if you can't get it running.
