I have a little bit of water (under an inch) floating around under the motor on my 1991 Sea Doo SP. Is this normal? Thanks.

Not really ,is the water hot when you drain it out,, those are known for leaks in the welch plugs on the exhaust manifold also could be a bad exhaust hose, or the driveshaft seal. see if it gets water when it sits still or only when you run it, run with the seat off and look for water spraying around.

Re: should I have a little water in the bilge?

Thanks for the reply. I took a sea test today. Not running, a little bit of water starts to get in, I think through one of the rear "globs" of yellow silicon (On the left side, if you are looking at the boat from the rear). The boat has a few of those back there. just sitting there, there was very little water. I started it up and ran it. I removed the cover off the drive shaft. It is dry. No spraying. There was also a bit of water on the other side of the hull, where the exhaust is. Could it be those globs? the exhaust? What should I do? Thank you very much.

did someone remove a rear step or some other accessory, there should not be any silicon on the rear of the boat,, see if it has holes where the silicon is and fill them with marine 5200

Sorry, I think I left off a detail, the silicon is inside the hull, in three spots, generally near a joint or in a corner. On the outside of the hull, there is no silicon.

Should I be worried? there was a wee bit of water going in, not much. I replaced the drain plug with a new one, seems to have done the trick

Re: should I have a little water in the bilge?

My wetjet always has a little bit of water in the bottom. It comes in through the vent on the front of the bike when I'm jumping waves. The automatic bilge siphons out the water down to about 1/2 inch or so in the bottom rear. It doesn't hurt a thing.

Re: should I have a little water in the bilge?

hello, I took another test run today, dropped her in, not running, dry as a bone, for 5-10 minutes, started her up, had the cover off the drive shaft, as it spun, no water was spraying out from there. Took her for a ride, 5 minutes, came back, had almost 2 inches of water in there, warm water. Any ideas? Do I need to worry? What should I do?

Thanks!

M

could be a leak in the drive shaft seal or the exhaust one place to look is the welded plugs on the pipe

drive it with the seat removed and look for the water spraying from the leak

Re: should I have a little water in the bilge?

thanks, will do, could it be that the two square bilge pumps don't work and this is just standard water getting in? is it dangerous to use as is?

Re: should I have a little water in the bilge?

I have seen where the o rings were left out where the pump and the forcing cone halves of the pump join together and water was forced in the siphon tubes rather than drawn out, did you have your pump apart just before it started taking on water? and water in the bilge can get slung all over the inside of the ski and sucked in the air box resulting in a blown engine, at the very least the added weight slows you down. I constantly look in my skies and if I see water I start looking for the reason right away.,, I had a flush connector once that leaked when the ski was running and it cost me an engine because it shot water directly in to the air box at wide open throttle.

Re: should I have a little water in the bilge?

thanks a lot for your help. I just got this machine, so I am not sure if the old owner had the pump apart. Is the pump inside that black box mounted on the back inside wall of the hull? where does the pump dump the water out? the guy did have two tubes connected to that black box unconnected, wonder if that was why. How does the water get into the tubes? I thought that the water that shoots out the back (under the tow hook) was the water getting inside. Thanks again...

Re: should I have a little water in the bilge?

the 2 tubes are the siphon tubes, from your post I would conclude that you need to purchase a climer service manual and read up on the pump etc. with the tubes not working all the water that gets splashed in from normal riding will just stay there and accumulate during the day

Re: should I have a little water in the bilge?

Thanks again. I actually got a Cylmer's and it says nothing about the bige pumps. I ran a test tonight whereby I took the bilge filters out, turned them up side down, filled them with water and ran the motor. the water did not get removed, so I guess I need to repair the filters. What do I need to look for please? Thank you very much!

Re: should I have a little water in the bilge?

that can't work because the water exiting the pump creates a suction in the tubes so if the ski isn't in the water running they don't work,

thanks. do you think I should install an after market bilge pump to take the water out? Am not sure where the water is getting in from.

Re: should I have a little water in the bilge?

first I would see that the siphon tubes are working and check the orings I mentioned run with the seat removed and look for a leak, if all else fails then do the bilge pump idea.

Re: should I have a little water in the bilge?

be sure to do the run with the seat off and look in for the leak, sometimes that is the only way to find it
