Should i get it ?

I have the oppertunity to get a inboard Boat. Going to look at it tomorrow. Owner said its red white and blue. Thats about it. 4 cyl. Soposed to run and float. Basicly turn key.

Ive never had an inboard. What would key me off to a bad boat? Whats there to know about inboards ? Safety stuff? ect.

Oh and ItS FREE

So is it worth it for parts alone ? How can you tell if the lower unit is good or not?

Being free you really can't ask for much, just be sure you aren't transfering his garbage to your yard.

I would confirm the engine runs and put some weight on the out drive and see how much the transom moves, it should easily hold 200 pounds without flexxing much if any and of coarse check the deck for soft spots.

Doing a water test seems like alot to ask for a free boat so at least loosen the bottom drain screw on the lower and confirm it actually has oil in it.

If it is an OMC drive walk away, as I understand you can't get parts anymore.

Ans remember a free boat is like a free puppy, they really aren't.

Chrysler 4 banger inboard ? Never seen one of those. I haven't seen many.....

I prefer outboards my self. I would pass on it.
There is no such thing as a free boat.

Definately, one thing is if its free take it, you could always in the end its not usable try to sell, or scrapp it, parts weight. How is she, post some photos of this beauty so we can see what your working with.
