I can't find a shop to replace my Drive cable for at least 2 weeks! I purchased parts from Dealer and i am mechanically inclined. How hard is it to replace the shifting cable from the shifting plate to the outdrive? It is an 1987 Alpha 1. I want to make sure that i align the end where it connects and turns the brass shifting rod on the outdrive without bending it? Any suggestions or diagrams would be appreciated.

It's easy to do. Follow the directions here:

You'll want an extra-deep socket to remove and install the nut on the cable at the outdrive, and an alignment tool to make sure your drive is aligned when you put it back together.
