Should I check the Intermediate Housing?

Okay here is my problem I have a 1977 OMC electric shift. I have already pulled the outdrive off so I can replace the pump and get a look inside. I also have the ball gears and the seals for them. My question is since I have the outdrive off and it would be much easier to get at should I reseal the housing? I have not yet pulled the shaft out yet to replace the ball gear.

When you change the ball gear, you might as well change that rear seal- you'll have it off anyways. Put the same shims back under the seal retainer. As far as the inboard seal.... I'm not sure which end it comes out, but regardless, it would almost certainly require pulling the engine. Seems a lot of work for a seal that is probably fine - if the intermediate is still full of oil and there's no gear oil in the bilge, I'd leave the inboard seal.

Okay Howard thanks I have both the seals for the shaft and no there are no leaks in the bilge. I have alot of things to do still. Once I finish the outdrive then I can work on the inside, change from points to electronic, repair the carpet, repair the seats, and add some aftermarket stuff. I hope to have it done by July 4th weekend we have a big picnic happening with a bunch of boats. Thanks again.
